Blaugust has already changed my morning. The first few steps remain the same. Get Coffee. Feed the dog. Shower. However, when I sit at my computer, I no longer open a video game first. Instead, go to Mastodon and check out the new posts from others participating in the event.
This is a nice feeling. It motivates me to come here to get some thoughts out of my head before I lose them all to the busyness of my day.
Video Games are Still a Thing
While creating my post, I still make time to finish my dailies in Honkai: Star Rail. I am coming around to auto-play in video games (GrooTheOdd, another Blaugust participant, made a good post on the feature yesterday). Being able to farm mats in the background while I brain dump is working well for me.
A Month to Process
Another thing I am doing this month besides Blaugust is reassessing my relationship with live-service games and MMOs. I uninstalled Fortnite last week. ESO is close to being uninstalled (I haven’t played in weeks). I have no interest in Diablo IV’s first season. WoW is on life support, doing the bare minimum for the Trading Post. This will be a more in-depth post later this month as I collect my thoughts on everything gaming in my life. Perhaps I just want to make space for Starfield next month.
I also notice I am not missing these games because of this new Blaugust routine.
Words are winning.
