In the past, when I’ve had 10 or 15 minutes of downtime, the habit was to grab my phone and play a game or two during this time. Or perhaps I would scroll social media aimlessly, and the break time would disappear. It wasn’t for a dopamine hit or to see what was happening. It was mainly out of habit, and I was not sure what else I could do in the window of time. So it’s overdue that I try something new with those 10 to 15-minute breaks. They are always going to be present in my day. But instead of opening Threads or a mobile game, I’ll work to make it writing time.
I need to build new habits to get where I want to be.
Using Time Better
My most significant roadblock to writing has always been a lack of time alone. My time during the day is relatively limited by my parental duties. If I ever want this blog to work for me, I must take advantage of the small moments throughout the day.
If I want to blog like it is 2009 again, I must focus on using the available time. Not every post needs to be 1000 words to be valuable. Embracing where I am now and making it work with the limitations set for me is a win. I am tired of attempting to carve out an hour to sit down and focus on writing because it never happens.
As I work to relaunch this blog and return to writing about video games, I need to take a new approach. I see reframing this phone time to tell a story, share an update about a game, or maybe even write a short review as only a positive development.
Let’s see where this goes. I hope you stick around for the journey, some news, and hopefully some surprises.
